Muftia Parasati Business Registration Number in Indonesia: Definition and Process
One of the most important things when establishing a new business in Indonesia is obtaining a business registration number, which is also known as Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB). NIB consolidates various requirements into a single document, making business registration easier and more efficient.
This primary permit signifies a company’s legal existence and facilitates easier access to other permits and licenses. If you want to start a business in Indonesia, you need to know more about a business registration number, how to check and find it, and how to get one for your business.
What is a Business Registration Number in Indonesia?
A business registration number is a unique identifier assigned to a business by a government agency or regulatory authority when the business is officially registered. In Indonesia, this identifier is called a business identification number or Nomor Induk Berusaha (NIB).
This permit is issued by the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. Regarding how many digits a business registration number typically consists of, 13 digits, ensuring each business is unique and easily traceable within governmental databases. This permit is mandatory for every business established in Indonesia. It is often used as a primary requirement to obtain other essential permits, such as import licenses and work visas for foreign employees.
Why Do You Need a Business Registration Number?
There are several important reasons why businesses need to have a business registration number (NIB):
Legal Recognition and Compliance
NIB is a legal permit that authorizes the company to operate within a particular jurisdiction. The government officially recognizes and protects the business under the lfaw when it obtains this permit, giving it a distinct legal identity. Without the permit, authorities consider the business unlawful and may impose penalties, shut it down, or take legal action.
Enhance Credibility
NIB serves as legal proof that the business is officially recognized by the government. Having this permit will enhance the business’s credibility and reputation. It signals to customers, partners, and investors that the business is legitimate and adheres to regulatory standards.
Access to Opportunities and Resources
NIB is an essential requirement to obtain other essential licenses and permits, such as import licenses and work visas for foreign employees. Registered businesses with NIB can also participate in various business tenders across Indonesia to get bigger market opportunities. Also, registered businesses often qualify for loans or funding options unavailable to unregistered entities. These opportunities and resources are crucial to support the business’s growth in the long term.
Security and Long-Term Stability
A business registration number serves as legal proof. It acts as a protection for the business from being shut down by authorities. It also lays the groundwork for future expansion, making securing more permits and licenses easier as the business grows.
How Do You Check and Find the Business Registration Number?
In Indonesia, Online Single Submission (OSS) issues the permit for the business registration number (NIB). You can access the OSS website (https://oss.go.id) to check and find the business registration number. Once the OSS homepage appears, scroll down until you find the “Search NIB” section. Enter the number of NIB issued for the business and click the “Search” button. If the NIB is valid, the webpage will show the business information, including operational status, company name, and the NIB.
How to Get a Business Registration Number?
Obtaining a business registration number (NIB) in Indonesia is essential for any entrepreneur looking to establish a legal entity within the country. The process is facilitated through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. Here are the steps on how to get a business registration number for your company:
Prepare the Required Documents
The first step is obtaining all the required documents and approvals for your NIB. These documents and approvals include:
- Complete Company Incorporation: Prepare and legalize the Articles of Association, obtain approval from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights for your company’s establishment, and secure approval from the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) if required.
- Domicile Certificate: Acquire a domicile certificate from your company’s local government office.
- Tax Identification Number (NPWP): Apply for an NPWP at the local tax office. This permit is essential for all tax-related activities.
- Company Bank Account: Open a bank account in your company’s name.
- ID Card: Prepare the business owner’s ID card or passport.
Register on the OSS Website
After preparing all required documents, go to the OSS website (https://oss.go.id) for the NIB activation process. Create an account first if you haven’t made one yet. After that, selecet “New Business Registration”. Enter all the required company information, such as company name, address, business activities, legal structure, directors/shareholders, NPWP, etc.
The OSS system will ask you to choose a verification method, such as WhatsApp or email, to send a verification code. Use the chosen method to get your code and fill out the form. Next, you will get your account information for the NIB on the OSS website.
Obtain the NIB
Visit the OSS website and log into the OSS-RBA system using your credentials. Navigate to the “Business Licensing” section and choose the option to start a new NIB application. The system will ask you to complete a series of forms to complete all the required business information and submit the required documents.
You will need to provide detailed business data, including the official name of the business, its physical address, and legal form (such as a limited liability company). The type of business activity must also be selected based on the KBLI code, which categorizes businesses by industry. After completing all the processes, the OSS system will generate the NIB for your business.
